Google Launches AI-Powered Health Coach and Rebrands Fitbit App
Google is set to overhaul its health and fitness ecosystem with the launch of a new AI-driven health coach, debuting alongside a rebranding of its Fitbit application to Google Health. This transition marks a significant step in the company’s long-term fitness strategy, further integrating the technology acquired from Fitbit in 2021 with the advanced capabilities of Google’s Gemini AI. The new service is designed to function as a comprehensive digital wellness advisor, offering personalized guidance on fitness, sleep, and overall health.
Beginning May 19, the AI health coach will be available as part of the Google Health Premium subscription, priced at $9.99 per month or $99 per year. Existing subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra will receive access to this new service at no additional cost. The launch coincides with the release of the new Fitbit Air fitness band, signaling a synchronized rollout for the company’s latest hardware and software offerings.
Personalization is at the core of the new coaching experience. Upon onboarding, users provide details regarding their health goals, physical limitations, and daily routines, which the AI utilizes to tailor its advice. The coach interacts through natural language, allowing users to log meals, workouts, and health records via voice dictation or file uploads. By synthesizing data from sleep metrics, nutrition logs, cycle tracking, and medical records, the tool aims to provide actionable, holistic insights rather than simple data summaries.
Initially, the AI health coach will be exclusive to select Fitbit and Pixel Watch users, though the company plans to expand support to a broader range of devices in the near future. While the Google Health app is available for download to a wider audience, those without compatible hardware will receive updates on when the coaching features will become accessible to them as the rollout progresses.
