Man Arrested After Killing Parents and Wounding Four, Including Two Infants, in Southern Spain
Police in the Andalusian town of El Ejido, near Almería, have arrested a 25-year‑old man suspected of murdering his parents and injuring four other people in a late‑night shooting on Monday. The incident was reported around 23:00 local time, and authorities say the suspect briefly fled before surrendering at a nearby police station.
Among the wounded were two very young children, identified by local reports as a seven‑month‑old infant believed to be the suspect’s son and an 18‑month‑old baby. A 60‑year‑old man is also thought to be among those seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The identities of the victims have not been officially released, and investigators from the Guardia Civil are working to determine a motive for the attack. While mass shootings are uncommon in Spain, data from Project Insight indicates that only four such incidents were recorded across the country between 2000 and 2023.
The case underscores the rarity of large‑scale gun violence in the region and highlights ongoing concerns about firearm-related crimes in Europe.
