The Capital One Spark Miles for Business is getting a minor glow-up, rebranding as the Capital One Venture Business.

While it’s largely the same business card with a updated name, two novel (albeit small) benefits and a huge, limited-time welcome offer produce this card worth a closer look.

You can earn up to $100 in annual statement credits and up to 150,000 bonus miles. With a latest account, you’ll earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $7,500 on purchases within the first three months of account opening and an additional 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $30,000 in the first six months from account opening.

Let’s take a closer look at what this business credit card offers and a few alternatives that may be a better fit for your side hustle or modest business.

Details of the Capital One Venture Business

The Venture Business card has a $95 annual fee, just like its sister consumer card, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. To offset this fee, two fresh benefits have been introduced. Every year, you receive:

$50 in credits to put toward Capital One Business Travel bookings

Up to $50 in statement credits for qualifying advertising or software purchases

The card continues to offer a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit of up to $120 every four years. Outside of these credits, the benefits are pretty slim — which isn’t entirely uncommon from a business card with a $95 annual fee. What truly makes the card shine is its rewards.

Besides the exceptionally generous intro bonus, you also earn at least 2X miles on every purchase and 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through the Capital One Business Travel portal.

You’ll miss out on elevated earnings from bonus spending categories, but you also don’t have to invest any brain power in paying attention to which purchases earn the most. There’s value in that.

Capital One miles are travel rewards you can squeeze value out of, regardless of your travel style. If you like to keep it simple, just redeem your miles to offset travel purchases at a rate of 1 cent per point. Using miles in this way means the welcome bonus alone is worth $1,500 in travel. Plus, you can stretch your miles before taking advantage of Capital One’s long list of transfer partner loyalty programs:

Alternatives to the Capital One Venture Business

If you’re searching for the perfect business credit card, it helps to look at how much your business spends on a credit card and which categories you spend the most in.

The Venture Business is a solid travel credit card and business card from top to bottom. it has two main weaknesses, on the other hand: 1) a huge spending requirement to earn the full welcome bonus and 2) no bonus spending categories.

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (see rates and fees) provides most of what you may want the Venture Business for and includes exceptional bonus categories and a comparable welcome bonus (with a more reasonable minimum spending requirement).

With the Ink Business Preferred, you can earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. It also earns 3X points on the first $150,000 in combined purchases in the following categories each year (then 1X points):

Shipping

Social media and search engine advertising

Internet, cable and phone services

Travel

You get all of that for the same $95 annual fee, although the Ink Business Preferred lacks ongoing statement credit offers.
