Mango Executive Jonathan Andic Detained Amid Reopened Investigation into Father’s Fatal Fall
Jonathan Andic, the 45-year-old vice-chairman of the fashion giant Mango, has been taken into custody by authorities in Catalonia as part of a renewed investigation into the death of his father, Isak Andic. The elder Andic, a prominent fashion tycoon who founded the global retail chain in 1984, passed away in December 2024 following a fatal fall from a ravine in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona. While the incident was initially classified as an accidental death, police reopened the case citing inconsistencies in statements provided by the younger Andic.
Following his detention, Jonathan Andic appeared before a judge who granted him release on a €1 million bail. As part of his release conditions, he has been ordered to surrender his passport and must report to the court on a weekly basis. Jonathan, who joined the family business in 2005 and previously led the company’s Mango Man division, has consistently denied any wrongdoing regarding the circumstances of his father’s death. A representative for the family expressed confidence that the investigation will ultimately clear him of any criminal responsibility.
The death of Isak Andic marked a significant loss for the international fashion industry. The Turkish-born entrepreneur, whose net worth was estimated by Forbes at $4.5 billion, grew the Mango brand into a massive retail network spanning 120 countries with nearly 3,000 locations. Since the tragedy, company leadership has focused on preserving the founder’s legacy, with CEO Toni Ruiz emphasizing the firm’s commitment to continuing the trajectory set by the late visionary. As the legal proceedings move forward, the company continues to operate under the guidance of its board and executive team.
