The Danmarks Ishockey Union (DIU) has announced a major strategic partnership with the blockchain platform Concordium, naming the company the official AI partner for the Danish National Ice Hockey Team. The collaboration, which is scheduled to debut at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, focuses on integrating advanced artificial intelligence and secure digital identity solutions to transform how fans interact with the sport. By utilizing Concordium’s regulatory-grade infrastructure, the DIU aims to modernize its digital ecosystem.
Two primary pilot programs will anchor the collaboration. The first is a “Verified Fan Programme” that utilizes zero-knowledge proof technology to allow supporters to verify their credentials while maintaining strict privacy standards. The second initiative, an “Agentic Commerce pilot,” will introduce autonomous AI agents capable of interacting with fans and facilitating secure, machine-driven transactions. This project leverages the x402 protocol, which is designed to ensure that automated economic exchanges are both verifiable and secure.
In a unique move for international sports, the entire partnership fee was settled using CCD, Concordium’s native blockchain token. The transaction was executed directly on-chain and includes a 12-month lock-up period enforced at the protocol level, ensuring total transparency. The DIU will retain full self-custody of the digital assets, signaling a shift toward decentralized financial management in professional athletics. In addition to the technological development, Concordium’s branding will appear on the national team’s jerseys and helmets.
