Figma Unveils AI-Powered Design Agent to Automate Creative Workflows
Figma is transforming the collaborative design experience with the introduction of a new AI agent integrated directly into its canvas. This advanced tool enables users to utilize natural language prompts to generate entirely new designs, edit existing layouts, and automate complex, repetitive tasks. By allowing multiple agents to operate simultaneously, the platform empowers design teams to iterate rapidly and explore various visual concepts without the friction of manual execution.
Building on previous integrations with OpenAI and Anthropic—which brought support for tools like Claude Code and Codex to the platform—Figma’s new agent is specifically fine-tuned for design-centric tasks. This specialized training allows the AI to understand complex design contexts and spatial elements more effectively than general-purpose models. Loredana Crisan, Figma’s chief design officer, emphasized that the goal is to shift the designer’s focus from tedious technicalities to high-level creative direction and user experience strategy.
The rollout begins within Figma Design, with plans to expand the technology across the company’s entire product suite to bridge the gap between design and code. This strategic move comes as Figma faces stiff competition from major players like Adobe and Canva. Despite the evolving landscape, Figma remains in a strong financial position, reporting a 46% surge in revenue to $333.4 million in the first quarter of 2026, bolstered by recent acquisitions like the node-based tool Weavy.
