Patient‑Centred AI Notetaker Kin Health Secures $9 M Seed Funding
A patient‑focused AI notetaking app, Kin Health, has closed a $9 million seed round led by Maveron. The startup, founded by physicians Arpan and Amit Parikh alongside former GoodRx developer Kyle Alwyn, aims to give patients a digital record of every doctor visit. The app records encounters, transcribes the dialogue, and produces a concise summary that highlights key advice and action items. Users can share the notes with family or health‑care providers as needed.
Unlike current clinic‑side solutions that mainly benefit clinicians, Kin’s tool is designed for patients. The company emphasizes data security, encrypting all recordings and default‑setting summaries to private. While the app is not yet HIPAA‑certified, it adheres to stringent privacy standards and plans to integrate data from electronic health records later in the year.
Kin Health’s technology relies on specialized medical language models to ensure accurate transcription and clinical relevance. The firm acknowledges the wider caution around AI in health care, noting the risk of hallucinations and the importance of clinician review. The platform also works to accommodate diverse accents, masks, and other real‑world audio challenges.
The startup intends to keep the core app free, monetising through referrals to specialist services and labs, mirroring GoodRx’s revenue model. Investors include Maveron, Town Hall Ventures, Eniac Ventures, Flex Capital, Foundry Square Capital, Pear VC, and The Family Fund, as well as a cohort of physicians and GoodRx executives.
“Kin is built to serve the patient, not the institution,” said Natalie Dillon of Maveron, highlighting the company’s potential for widespread consumer adoption.
