The US President recently concluded a two-day state visit to Beijing, engaging in extensive high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit commenced with a grand ceremonial welcome, featuring a gun salute, cheering children, and a red-carpet procession, where the US leader was greeted by China’s Vice President Han Zheng. Accompanying the President were several prominent American business leaders, including Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX, Tim Cook of Apple, Larry Fink from BlackRock, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia, underscoring the significant economic dimension of the delegation.
Formal bilateral discussions were held at the Great Hall of the People, where both leaders emphasized the global importance of their relationship. The US President reciprocated, expressing gratitude for a “magnificent welcome like no other” and noting a history of swiftly resolving difficulties through direct communication, adding it was “an honor” to meet Xi Jinping.
Beyond the diplomatic meetings, the itinerary included cultural engagements designed to showcase China’s rich heritage. The US delegation toured the ancient Temple of Heaven, a stunning 15th-century complex where emperors once offered sacrifices. The President remarked on the site’s beauty, calling it “incredible.” The visit culminated in a lavish state banquet at the Great Hall of the People, attended by a host of dignitaries and business leaders, including Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. The elaborate menu featured local delicacies such as Beijing roast duck, lobster in tomato soup, and pan-fried pork buns, concluding with desserts like tiramisu and trumpet shell-shaped pastry.
