X Debuts ‘History’ Tab to Centralize User Activity and Content Discovery
X has officially rolled out a new ‘History’ tab, a comprehensive feature designed to streamline how users manage and revisit their digital footprint on the platform. By consolidating bookmarks, liked posts, video viewing history, and read articles into one intuitive interface, the company is positioning the app as a more robust tool for content curation and long-term engagement. The update, which is currently making its way to iOS users, marks a shift toward a more browser-like experience for the social media giant.
Under this new structure, the existing ‘Bookmarks’ button in the mobile app’s side menu has been rebranded as ‘History.’ This section is organized into four distinct categories: Bookmarks, Likes, Videos, and Articles. While the Bookmarks and Likes tabs reflect intentional user actions, the Videos and Articles sections offer an automated way for users to track content they have previously engaged with. To ensure user privacy, this entire history dashboard remains strictly visible only to the account holder.
Beyond simple organization, this update serves a broader strategic purpose for the platform’s long-form content ecosystem. By tracking articles and videos automatically, X is creating a personalized reading and viewing environment that incentivizes creators and businesses to publish directly to the platform rather than relying on external links. This move comes at a critical time in the media landscape, as many publishers report a decline in referral traffic from traditional social networks. By keeping users within its ecosystem, X is positioning itself as a primary destination for both content discovery and consumption.
