In a rapid ascent that has defied industry norms, the all-female supergroup BIIRD has captivated audiences across the globe, selling out major venues and supporting stadium tours for artists like Ed Sheeran—all without having released a formal debut album. The group, which features between eight and 11 multi-instrumentalists, first garnered attention with a high-profile debut at Trafalgar Square in 2024. Founded by musician Lisa Canny, the project was envisioned as a departure from the conventional representation of women in folk and traditional music. Canny, a decorated harp and banjo champion, aimed to create a collective that challenges the status quo of the genre.
