Greg Brockman Assumes Full Leadership of OpenAI Product Strategy Amidst Reorganization
Greg Brockman, a co-founder and the president of OpenAI, is now officially leading the company’s product strategy. This move formalizes a transition that has been underway, with Brockman previously managing OpenAI’s product initiatives on an interim basis during the medical leave of AGI deployment CEO Fidji Simo.
In a recent internal memo, Brockman outlined a significant strategic shift aimed at unifying key OpenAI offerings. The plan involves integrating ChatGPT, the company’s conversational AI model, with Codex, its programming-focused product. This consolidation is intended to create a more cohesive user experience and streamline development efforts. Brockman reportedly stated the goal is to “execute with maximum focus toward the agentic future, to win across both consumer and enterprise.”
While Simo continues her medical leave, she collaborated with Brockman on these strategic adjustments. OpenAI has confirmed that discussions about merging ChatGPT, Codex, and its API into a unified platform, overseen by a singular core product team, have been ongoing. This reorganization reflects a broader company directive, following CEO Sam Altman’s “code red” declaration late last year, which emphasized a renewed focus on the core ChatGPT experience and led to the pausing of other projects like the video generator Sora and OpenAI for Science.
