Seoul AI Startup Config Secures $27 Million to Accelerate Robotic Data Infrastructure
A Seoul‑based artificial intelligence startup, Config, announced the close of an oversubscribed seed round that raised $27 million, pushing its valuation above $200 million. The round attracted a slate of prominent South Korean investors, including Samsung Venture Investment, Hyundai Motor’s ZER01NE Ventures, LG Tech Ventures and SK Telecom’s venture arm, highlighting growing confidence in the market for physical AI and robotics data platforms.
Founded in early 2025 by former engineers from Meta, Waymo, Google and Naver, Config differentiates itself by supplying the massive, high‑quality datasets required to train robot intelligence rather than building hardware. The company employs roughly 300 staff members across Seoul and Hanoi who have already compiled more than 100,000 hours of human‑motion footage – a volume that dwarfs existing open‑source collections.
Config’s business model mirrors that of a semiconductor foundry, acting as a neutral provider of curated training data for robot manufacturers, system integrators and defense contractors. By delivering structured, reliable motion data, the firm aims to become an indispensable piece of the global robotics supply chain. Management projects annual recurring revenue of $10 million by the end of 2027 and plans to expand its data library to one million hours of footage.
Looking ahead, Config intends to launch a cloud‑based “Robot‑as‑a‑Service” offering that will let customers access its foundational models remotely, eliminating the need for costly on‑premise hardware. The fresh capital will fund the scaling of data collection, development of the cloud platform and broader market outreach, positioning Config as a key enabler of the next wave of industrial automation.
